ABOUT US
At Lingo Dog Training we use dog training methods based on science. Scientific experiments have provided insight into how dogs and other mammals learn.
Reward-based or positive reinforcement techniques have been proven to be the most effective, efficient and kind methods available (see the studies and conclusions of B. F. Skinner who did extensive laboratory testing on animals using both rewards and punishments, for one example). Positive reinforcement dog training focuses on rewarding behaviors we like that are incompatible with behaviors we don't like. When our dog happily exhibits good behavior it naturally strengthens our relationship with our dog while also improving the experience of every other person who comes into contact with our dog.
In this way we help our whole community enjoy dogs more.
We never use methods or tools that utilize pain, fear or force. As radio show host and pet behavior expert Steve Dale has said, using force to train a dog is like using a nuclear weapon to weed your garden; the weeds are gone but the collateral damage is catastrophic. Using pain to discourage bad behavior damages the dog's mental and emotional health and can lead to other, often more serious, behavior problems like aggression. Positive reinforcement training is most supportive of improving the human-dog bond while the dog is learning and we are "weeding out" behavior we don't like.
We have a firm belief in the effectiveness of reward-based training for even severe behavior problems. We are committed to reward-based training to create, preserve, and strengthen a happy relationship between human and dog.
Private lessons are open to puppies and dogs of all ages. During a private lesson you and your family have the full attention of your dog training instructor for an hour. Training exercises and management options provide customized solutions to suit your needs and goals for your dog's behavior. A private lesson is the ideal situation for dogs to begin their training and people to get all of their dog questions answered.
